Hackathon- day of

The first thing we did on the day of the hackathon was discuss our design ideas, go over the base line requirements for the design, and plan out our goals/deadlines for the day. That information can be found here:   Requirements and Planning

9:30-11am: Our first goal was to decide on our preliminary design and see what parts to order. We went over rough sketches and connections we weren't sure about and categorized the parts we ordered to see what we were still missing.

11am-1pm: Once we had our design, we split into teams: Erik and Julia went to shop for parts, Kyle and Sam went to machine, Dylan and I worked on documentation and design sketches.

Kyle machined the piece to connect the wheel bar to the caster wheel, while Sam cut PVC piping for prototyping. The initial design sketches and documentation we worked off of is here:  Design Descriptions

1pm-6pm: Go mode. We all jumped into work with assembling, fixing up parts and machining, and fleshing out the website.

We checked that our machining and structure of assembly worked with the cut pieces of PVC piping, and then we went to machine the metal tubing into the correct lengths.

We changed our original spring design of having our strong and weak spring in line and decided to have the strong and weak spring side by side. We also had to modify the joint for the caster wheel in order to make the caster wheel upright on the floor.

We succeeded in our goal and built a functioning prototype! Our finals material list can be found here
